The Email Routing feature in cPanel allows you to control how incoming emails for a domain are routed. This is useful when your email is hosted on the same cPanel server or with an external email provider.

Follow the Steps Below

  1. Log in to your cPanel account.
  2. Go to the Email section.
  3. Click Email Routing.
  4. Select the domain you want to configure.
  5. Choose the appropriate email routing option:
    • Automatically Detect Configuration – cPanel automatically determines the routing based on the domain's MX records.
    • Local Mail Exchanger – Use this when email accounts are hosted on the same cPanel server.
    • Backup Mail Exchanger – The server acts as a backup mail server.
    • Remote Mail Exchanger – Use this when your email is hosted with an external provider such as Google Workspace or Microsoft 365.
  6. Click Change to save the configuration.

Important

Incorrect Email Routing settings may cause incoming emails to fail or be delivered to the wrong server.

In most cases, Automatically Detect Configuration is recommended. If you use an external email provider, make sure your MX records are correctly configured before selecting Remote Mail Exchanger.
